About
About
Our U8 and U9 players are stepping onto bigger pitches and joining the exhilarating world of Small Sided Football (SSF) in either Mixed or All-Girls teams. While still non-competitive and focused on rapid skill development, our U8’s and U9’s get the thrilling opportunity to play home and away matches against rival clubs across the Football Canterbury Association. The action ramps up as we transition to 7-a-side football, introducing goalies and larger fields and goals—giving every player more space to shine, score, and grow!
Parents, we need your leadership!
Stepping up to coach the U8/U9 age groups is an incredibly rewarding commitment. We will fully support you every step of the way: the club will run a MiniRoos Coaching Certificate and fund coaches to attend the Foundation of Football course to ensure you have all the confidence and skills needed to guide our emerging stars! Join us on the sideline! Contact your Age Coordinator for more information.

Age Group Information
Forming a Team
Mixed and Girls teams are formed through social and school friendship groups with the exception of Graded teams which are formed through the Club’s annual grading process and are part of the Development Program.
Equipment
All players are expected to wear the club’s full kit (shirt, shorts, and socks). Players bring their own football boots and shin pads.
Training
Non-graded teams attend one training session per week and can choose to attend optional development sessions. Training takes place at one of BDFC’s grounds – Birchgrove, Easton, Glover St, or Cohen Park – on a weekday afternoon/evening. All teams are led by parent or volunteer coaches and managers.
Graded teams attend two team development training sessions (led by DP coach) per week at Waterfront Oval.
Training allocations are usually finalised in early March and the day/time depends on the team and age group.
For extra training opportunities with our club coaches, go to our PLAYER DEVELOPMENT section to find out more.
Ground Officials
Each Balmain home team MUST provide one volunteer for EVERY home game they play, regardless of the ground they play on. Your team must provide a Ground Official (GO) for your own game. If you are the home team on another club’s field, you must in that instance also provide a GO for your game.
