About
About
Our U6 and U7 players dive straight into the fun of Small Sided Football (SSF), joining fantastic, supportive teams in either Mixed or all-Girls age groups. SSF is the perfect, non-competitive launchpad where your little one can discover the joy of the game, develop crucial skills, and build confidence while always having a ball! Every week, the pitch at Waterfront Drive Sporting Ground will be buzzing with energy as they play against other awesome Balmain teams. Mark your calendars—the fun runs from April all the way through to August!
Parents, we need you! Coaching the U6 and U7 teams is an incredibly rewarding way to be involved. We will help you build your confidence and skills by running a MiniRoos Coaching Certificate at the club and funding coaches to attend the Foundation of Football course. Step onto the field with us and help shape the future of our club!

Age Group Information
Forming a Team
U6 and U7 mixed and girls teams are formed through social and school friendship groups, with parents and carers given the opportunity to specify their preferred teammates during the registration process.
Equipment
All players are expected to wear the club’s full kit (shirt, shorts, and socks). Players bring their own football boots and shin pads. All new U6 players receive an Ultra Football voucher to claim their kit (Jersey, Shorts, Socks) as part of their registration. All returning players in U6 & U7 will receive an Ultra Football voucher to purchase a replacement item as required/desired. Visit the ORDER YOUR PLAYER KIT page to find out more information.
Training
Teams attend one training session per week and can choose to attend optional development sessions.
All teams are led by parent or volunteer coaches and managers.
Training takes place at one of BDFC’s grounds – Birchgrove, Easton, Glover St, Rozelle Parklands or Cohen Park – on a weekday afternoon/evening.
Training allocations are usually finalised in early March and the day/time depends on the team and age group.
Extra training opportunities with professional club coaches are available. See PLAYER DEVELOPMENT to find out more.
Coaching
Volunteer coaches drawn from our parent and player community provide coaching for our Junior teams. Parents are encouraged to participate as coaches or assistant coaches and will be provided with all the resources required to support their team, including opportunities to complete relevant coaching certificates.
Managing
Each team has a volunteer manager drawn from the parents and carers of the team players. For these age groups, the manager’s role is to:
- Communicate games and training sessions times and locations.
- Manage player cards and game record sheets.
- Assist the team coach in managing game day activities.
- Coordinate the team to complete the teams ground official duties.
Volunteer Managers are fully briefed and supported by the Club.
Matchday Volunteers
Teams are allocated Ground Official duty on a rotating basis for matchday where they must provide an adult for the following roles:
- Time Keeper: Blow the hooter/horn for the start, half-time and end of match intervals
- BBQ: Cook Sausages, bacon and eggs on the BBQ
- Ground Official: Wear a hi-vis vest and gently walk around the fields, ensure everyone (especially the passionate parents!) remembers the spirit of the game, and help keep the atmosphere fun and positive for our youngest players.
Keep an eye out on the draw to see when your team is allocated to provide the 3 volunteers!
