How to Make a Submission Supporting the Waterfront All-Weather Field
11 September 2026Inner West Council is inviting public submissions on the revised proposal for an all-weather playing field at Waterfront Drive in Callan Park.
Submissions close on 6 October 2026.
Even if you supported the original Development Application, it is important to make a fresh submission supporting the revised proposal.

What should I include?
The most useful submission is one written in your own words.
Start by clearly stating that you support REV/2026/0005, then choose two to four points that matter most to you.
You could explain:
- your connection to BDFC, Waterfront, Callan Park or the local community
- how wet-weather cancellations or poor field conditions have affected you or your family
- why children and adults need a safe and reliable playing surface
- the importance of supporting growing participation by girls and women
- why greater reliability would benefit players with a disability or limited mobility
- how this all-weather field would reduce pressure on surrounding grass fields
- that Waterfront already accommodates more than 1,000 players across a typical winter weekend
- that the revised design raises the field above the modelled level of a Probable Maximum Flood
- that the revised drainage system provides additional water storage and multiple layers of filtration
- that Waterfront was selected following five years of investigation, assessment and community consultation
- that the Balmain Road field cannot meet the needs of BDFC’s more than 3,000 players
- why you believe the Planning Panel should approve the revised proposal
You do not need to cover every point.
A simple structure to follow
You can structure your submission in four short parts:
- State that you support REV/2026/0005.
- Explain your personal connection to the field or community.
- Give two or three reasons for your support.
- Ask the Planning Panel to approve the revised proposal.
For example:
I support REV/2026/0005 for the Waterfront all-weather field. My family has been involved with football at Waterfront for [number] years, and we have experienced [your experience]. A reliable field would [why it matters to you]. I am satisfied that the revised design responds to the Panel’s concerns about flooding and documents the extensive consideration of alternative sites. I ask the Planning Panel to approve the revised proposal.
Please personalise this example rather than copying it word for word. Your own experience and reasons are the most important part of your submission.
